Boys Youth Lacrosse

Lacrosse is a fun, fast paced, competitive team sport played with a long handled netted stick and a rubber ball.

The sport is growing in popularity. Boys lacrosse is now a WIAA high school sport as well as a US Olympic sport.

Capital City Lacrosse Club recruits players in Madison between 1st and 8th grade.

Season Information

Ages

What aged players are appropriate for this program?

Teams are based on grade level. We field 4 boys teams: 8U (1st and 2nd grades), 10U (3rd and 4th grades), 12U (5th and 6th grades) and 14U (7th and 8th grades).

When

What time of the year does this program run?

Lacrosse is a spring sport. Practice begins outside in early/mid March for the older teams, and inside at a gym for the younger teams. The season runs from mid April until early June.

PRACTICES

Where are practices held and how often?

Practices are held twice a week at lower Garner Park. The field is on South Hill Road just off S. Rosa Road. The coach for each team will set practice times and days based on availability. Players do not need to be at every practice to play on the team.

Games

Where are games and how often?

Games are held during the season mostly on Sundays. Multiple games will be played on that chosen day. Capital City Lacrosse teams play against neighboring communities, and games are played within 30 minutes of Madison. Each team will participate in 1-2 local tournaments during the season.

Equipment

What equipment will I need to participate in boys lacrosse?

Boys will need a helmet that meets NOCSAE standards as well as SEI certified. They will also need a mouth guard and protective cup, as well as elbow pads, NOCSAE standard chest pads, gloves, cleats and a properly strung stick. Players can play with a long stick starting at the 12U level. Goalies will have additional protective gear.

More information regarding boys equipment specifications and regulations can be found at the USA Lacrosse website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are jerseys provided by the club?

Jerseys are provided by the club at no additional cost to players. If you lose your jersey, additional jerseys can be purchased at the expense of the player. It is your player's responsibility to keep the jersey clean and in good condition. Jerseys will need to be returned to the club at the end of each season.

Can I play another spring sport while participating in Capital City Lacrosse Club?

It is our goal to grow the sport of lacrosse in Madison, and we understand that schedules are busy and conflicts arise. Many of our players play overlapping spring sports, or the end of a season is wrapping up as we are starting our practices. If you play two spring sports, we ask that you please inform your coach and mark your available attendance at practices and games so that your coach can plan accordingly.

What if my friend is playing on another team, can I play on that team?

Teams are assigned based on grade level. This guidance is given to us by both our Wisconsin (Badgerland Lacrosse Association) and National (USA Lacrosse) governing bodies. If a player would like special consideration to move to another team, please reach out to the club and we can discuss options.
